IKEA KNÄPPA Cardboard Digital Camera

I want one!!

After announcing their upcoming line UPPLEVA home entertainment system, here is another interesting product from IKEA - The KNAPPA Cardboard Digital Camera.

Good news is..you dont need to buy the camera, it will be given out for free at IKEA stores to promote their new PS Furniture Collection.

IKEA Reveals KNÄPPA Cardboard Digital Camera

“Instead, limited numbers of the 4.13 x 2.56-inch (105 × 65 mm) camera will be given away in IKEA stores to promote the new PS 2012 furniture collection – with the aim being that shoppers will use it to share images of the furniture range in their own homes (though hopefully not still in hundreds of parts).
Designed by Jesper Kouthoofd, the recyclable camera is made out of one piece of folded cardboard which is secured by two plastic screws. A single circuit board holds all the electronics, camera sensor and integrated USB connector. There is a combined on/off and shutter button on the front – holding it down for a few seconds turns the KNÄPPA on or off and a “firm click” takes a photo.
The performance of the KNÄPPA isn’t likely to worry the likes of Nikon or Canon. It shoots decidedly lo-fi images (think a 2004 camera-phone) and IKEA jokes about the lack of functions in the promo video below – to use the “zoom function” you simply extend your arms, and “advanced image stabilization” involves resting the resting the camera on a chair.
Once 40 photos have been taken, users plug the 2.3 megapixel camera – billed as “the world’s cheapest digital camera” – into a USB port and transfer the images in the normal manner. Images can then be deleted from the camera by using a paperclip to press the delete button on the front for about five seconds.”

IKEA UPPLEVA | Furniture with Built-in Home Entertainment Systems

WOW! Ikea is moving into electronics!

IKEA combines furniture and electronics to get rid of messy wires, cables and eyesores.

As reported by The Verge IKEA will be introducing their first home entertainment system products called UPPLEVA soon.

“The range includes three designs, all of which incorporate an LED TV, 2.1 sound system with wireless subwoofers, Wi-Fi for smart TV features, and DVD / Blu-Ray players. The company is planning to launch in Sweden, France, Italy, Poland, Spain, Denmark, Norway, and Portugal in the fall, with a worldwide rollout in spring 2013. The furniture is intended to hide away cables, and will come in a number of different color options.
A few specs on the system have been announced — the LED panels are full HD (suggesting 1080p) which Ikea says have a 400Hz refresh rate and come in four sizes, with four HDMI inputs, two USB ports, and support for DivX HD files. There’s also extra storage, which means that your Xbox 360 and PS3 won’t need to be left out.
The range, dubbed “Uppleva” (meaning experience) is designed to make your home entertainment simpler to use, with one remote to command the whole system. It’s built by Chinese manufacturer TCL, a company better known in the US under the RCA brand, or as Alcatel in Europe. The base model is set to cost SEK 6,500 (about $995) with a 5-year guarantee, though it’s not clear what’s included at this price point, or how much the full version will cost.”
