Crystal Coneheads | Jagnus Design Studio
Secret Fresh together with several Filipino creatives teams up to celebrate the Philippine launch of Crystal Head Vodka.
With our love of skulls, awesome vodka and bad-ass design, our studio presents "Crystal Coneheads" in six precious crystal colorways. The idea is derived from the legend of the ancient crystal skulls and Dan Akroyd's iconic movie “The Coneheads”. Made of molded resin, the design represents the aesthetic ideals that we celebrate such as simplicity of form, material honesty, absence of embellishment and a spirit of fun.
The Bottle
Aykroyd and Alexander wanted the opportunity to get closer to the myth of the 13 crystal heads. After more than two years in development, their moment finally arrived. When their glass depiction of a head was complete, Milan-based manufacturer Bruni Glass declared it to be a bottle of unsurpassed complexity and quality. Now, what to put in it? Vodka became the drink of choice. But with it, a commitment to do something enlightened and different.

The Legend
A controversial archaeological mystery, 13 crystal heads have been found in regions around the world, from the American southwest to Tibet. They’re dated between 5,000 and 35,000 years old, and were supposedly polished into shape from solid quartz chunks over a period of several hundred years. Although according to Hewlett Packard engineers, they bear no tool marks to tell us exactly how they were made.
The heads are thought to offer spiritual power and enlightenment to those who possess them, and as such stand not as symbols of death, but of life.
The Founders
Dan Aykroyd is a well-known actor, musician, entrepreneur and spiritualist; a believer in what he calls the "invisible world" where otherworldly presences are a "form of reality as valid as our normal reality." Partner and veteran fine artist John Alexander has exhibited extensively in the United States and around the world. Together, they were avid researchers of the legend of the 13 crystal heads. And from this inspiration, an idea was born.

Official Launch of Crystal Head Vodka in Manila | Secret Fresh Gallery
Secret Fresh presents: "Crystal Head Vodka's Official Launch Party in Manila! "
In origin, crystal skulls are human skull hardstone carvings made from precious stones and is claimed to be pre-Columbian Mesoamerican artifacts by their alleged finders. These mythical skulls are said to be found in ancient lands attributed with the Mayan and Aztec civilizations. Unlike other artifacts, these skulls are often claimed to exhibit paranormal phenomena and mystical powers. Because it is made with crystals they are believed to be spiritually charged. This served as the root of the cleverly designed CRYSTAL HEAD VODKA.
Crystal Head has won numerous awards, including a Gold Medal for Excellent Taste at the 2013 Moscow ProdExpo Internation Tasting Contest, as well as a Double Gold Medal from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Cystal Head Vodka is also the official vodka of the legendary English rock band , The Rolling Stones.
The entire process of creating Crystal Head Vodka is resoundingly PURE at heart - from the high quality grain to the pristine waters of Newfoundland, Canada. Crystal Head is quadruple distilled, then filtered seven times, of which three are through semi-precious crystals known as Herkimer Diamonds. No glycol, citrus oil or added sugars are used in the making of Crystal Head Vodka. The result is a pure and extraordinarily smooth spirit making it one of the world’s finest Vodka.
Crystal Head Vodka in partnership with Secret Fresh, celebrates the launching of the ultra premium vodka in the Philippines. Remarkable for its pure spirit and mystical process, the vodka is infused with quality peaches and cream corn blended with fresh water from New Foundland, Canada. Also, it contains no additives. It is filtered multiple times and again specially filtered thrice with Herkimer diamonds and spiritually charged crystals. Herkimer diamonds are high vibration crystals that grow on lands from which the legendary crystal heads were carved. The bottles are originally designed by Dan Aykroyd and John Alexander and is crafted with superior materials and minerals. The collaboration includes various artists who will design and customize limited Crystal Head Vodka Bottles.

Eraserheads Limited Edition Vinyl Toy | Secret Fresh
Secret Fresh's sleekly refurbished gallery greatly
signified exciting and brighter things to come more than cementing its
reputation in spearheading the market and audience of designer toy collectibles
in the country and for which it has gained recognition internationally. It has
had notable collaborations with Kidrobot artists such as Frank Kozik, Huck Gee,
Okedoki, Joe Ledbetter, as well as with local esteemed multi-awarded visual
artists such as Elmer Borlongan, Mark Justiniani, and Charlie Co. It has also
teamed up with premier lifestyle brands Bench and Magis Dimensione.
This september marks it's biggest and most anticipated designer toy/vinyl collectible, a collaboration between Secret Fresh,
Korean designer toy artist Coolrain, and one of the most successful, most influential, critically
acclaimed, and significant bands in the history of Original Pilipino Music - Eraserheads
ERASERHEADS TOY LAUNCH
SEPTEMBER 14 SATURDAY 2PM ONWARDS
SECRET FRESH
RONAC ART CENTER, ORTIGAS AVENUE, SAN JUAN, MM
Eraserheads was formed by Ely Buendia,
Raymund Marasigan, Buddy Zabala and Marcus Adoro when they were still students
at UP Diliman. From their first
independently released album Ultraelectromagneticpop!, came a string of number
one singles and top selling albums from Circus whose album cover was designed
by visual artist Mark Justiniani, to Cutterpillow which achieved platinum status several times. The
Eraserheads received the Viewer's Choice Award for Asia from the 1997 MTV Video
Music Awards for
their music video Ang Huling El Bimbo directed by award-winning director Aureus
Solito. They were the first and only
Filipino band to have bagged the highly coveted Moon Man trophy from MTV.
The band
recently had a reunion concert in 2008 after their break-up in 2002 and sorely
missed absence from then.
A dream project long concocted by
Secret Fresh owner and toy collector Big Boy Cheng who, is also a fan
of the band. This will be a manifest
memento of the band's achievement and its huge influence on the bands who
followed after them. Reminiscent of the Kidrobot released vinyl toy for the
concept band Gorillaz, the Eraserheads toy features all 4 members holding their
respective instruments, and packaged as a set in editions of 500. Each figure
stands at 21cm.
Coolrain is specially chosen to design the Eraserheads
toy as he's distinctively known for creating toy figures with such character
and identity such as the Mindstyle NBA ATC series which was a popular blindbox
vinyl collectible at Secret Fresh. This
approach has led him to collaborations
with NIKE, CINELLI, CONVERSE, LG, Motorola, etc.
The launch on September 14 Saturday at 2pm onwards
will be complemented by performances from bands PEDICAB,
DOND ABAY AND THE TANODS and THIS WAY TO THE.
Signing for the toys and orders will be done on a
first-come-first-served basis.
For
further inquiries about the toy launch, please contact
secretfresh.info@gmail.com or

Ai Wei Wei Bust By Charlie Co x Secret fresh
| "COMRADE AI WEIWEI IN THE YEAR OF THE DRAGON"
Ai Weiwei is a Chinese contemporary artist known for his political
activitism. He has openly criticized the Chinese government and its
stance for human rights and has been apprehended and jailed in Beijing.
Charlie
sees Ai Weiwei as icon for his radical thinking. In his painting, he
depicts the Chinese artist as a brave and courageous individual. Ai
Weiwei's hair is as fiery as his ideas. His bright red beard is like the
fire that comes out of a Dragon's mouth. His eyes are like white
pearls against a black background, Charlie's interpretation that Ai
Weiwei's views are only either black or white, and no grey areas.

Mushrooms Go Pink In Manila For Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Ministry of Mushrooms, Inc. leads a
collaborative movement to spread awareness about
mushrooms and breast cancer.
MANILA, Philippines - 21 September 2012: In October 2012, the Ministry of Mushrooms, Inc. will launch Mushrooms Go Pink, a collaborative breast cancer awareness campaign in line with Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This will run through the whole month of October and continue until the end of the year and strives to promote the prevention of illnesses such as Breast Cancer. It is believed that wellness can be enhanced by stimulating the senses through, nourishing food, art and alternative forms of wellness. With the end goal of giving the public more options in attaining a more holistic lifestyle.
Close to 500,000 die from breast cancer every year and it is today’s leading killer of women ages 35-54 around the world. It is important to note that in the Philippines current estimates show that 1 in 13 Filipinas will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. According to studies done by the Philippine General Hospital and the Cancer Institute of the Philippines, “at present, there is low cancer prevention consciousness [in the Philippines],” and sadly, this lack of cancer knowledge has perpetuated the nation’s relatively low survival rates. If this persists, experts conclude 1 in 1,800 Filipinos will develop cancer each year.
Why Mushrooms? As the focus of many ongoing scientific studies today, there is strong empirical evidence that some properties found in mushrooms can possibly lead to breast cancer prevention and elimination. “It is strongly suggested that mushrooms be added to one’s daily diet,” says Ministry of Mushrooms President and CEO, Marco Lobregat “Oyster mushrooms for example, have both antioxidant and anti-tumor properties. It has been discovered that extracts from this mushroom interfere with the cancer cell cycle and cancer cells from spreading.” Lobregat stresses that although a mushroom-incorporated diet can be extremely beneficial, it should be balanced out with other healing practices and routines and one should not bypass his or her regular check-ups and medical advice.
To promote Mushrooms Go Pink, Ministry of Mushrooms, Inc. has joined forces with over 20 well-lauded restaurants and food specialists around Metro Manila and the surrounding areas which will be creating and serving dishes made with locally grown oyster mushrooms to symbolize edible representations of the campaign. Proceeds from the specified dishes ordered will go to raise funds for the benefit of the ICanServe Foundation, a foundation dedicated to providing hope and help to women with breast cancer by promoting early cancer detection through information campaigns and community-based screening programs.
Coming together for this cause are like-minded collaborators who include: co.lab Manila, Rustan’s Coffee Corp, Edgy Veggy, Kitchen Revolution, Stillpoint Manila, Jagnus Design Studio + Secret Fresh + Detalle, Zodio Philippines, Soul Spa Philippines and LBC Foundation.

For people recovering from cancer, practicing yoga helps restore range of motion, relieve anxiety tension and pain, bring calm and well-being into one's life.
Rebecca de Villa has been practicing yoga since 2004 and teaching since 2007. Her first student was a dear friend who was diagnosed with breast cancer and asked her to help by guiding her with a yoga practice geared to people with cancer.
She and her friend will be sharing their experience and the talk will end with some breath and movement exercises.
Zodio supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Zodio is a free app for Apple and Android that makes it easy to find establishments near you to your specific preferences. It is a location-based tool to share your experiences and to check-in for real-time deals. It's Southeast Asia's fun and social consumer reporting and perks app.
Zodio hooked up with Ministry of Mushrooms for an interactive, real-time, fun and social community dining experience that gives back.
At all participating food establishments, Zodio will give P1 for every person who checks-in, P1 for every photo uploaded, and P1 for every review given. Your friends can see which establishments you support for breast cancer awareness.
“We could do great things if we all shared our talents in harmony with each other,” says Lobregat.
For the Mushrooms Go Pink collaborators, awareness is key, and information is a giant step towards prevention. It is a shared belief that Cancer prevention is really about being fully aware about early detection, living a healthier lifestyle, and the importance of nutrition. Mushrooms - arguably today’s most revolutionary super-food with the greatest potential to alter cancer studies, and possibly treatments.

Secret Fresh Presents Epjey Pacheco + Dave Lock + Iya Consorio
I am also excited to go to this show today!
6pm at Secret Fresh Gallery A, RONAC Art Center, Ortigas Avenue, Greenhills, San Juan
Three individual openings by Epjey Pacheco, Dave Lock and Iya Consorio.
Epjey Pacheco's new series of works in an exhibit titled "BuildxSleepxDestroy" deals with his very labor intensive process that produces intricately detailed works that ruminates on the surfeit of surface doodling now incorporating paper cut outs and finally nuanced by the addition of spray paint stains in an inclination to destroy them as a diametric dynamic of its very creation.
Dave Lock presents us permutations of neurosis that begs more than Rorschach readings on the psyche of contemporary man as the artist pondering on being, evolution and theosophy. He'll be rounding out this series with a new set of prints and a mannequin bust fleshed out as one of his tormented contorted figure from his distinctive lexicon of expressive anatomia.
Iya Consorio's ink drawings richly weaves personas, encounters and symbols in a series of " portrait tapestries" mined from the tradition of Japanese prints in creating such pulpy stratas of reading from a work that begets rather epic interpretation, with each portrait being a novella of its own.
All three exhibits will be on view until September 11, 2012. - via LC

STRAY by Jagnus Design Studio | WONDER PUPPY EXHIBIT
Our office Jagnus Design Studio was invited to participate in this event by Magis, Dimensione & Secret Fresh called "WONDER PUPPY"
Join us this Friday Aug 17, 2012 5PM as we exhibit our take on Eero Aarnio's Magis Puppy Chair at Dimensione Fort Bonifacio together with other creatives Whoop Wonka, Nemo Aguila, Tripp63, Farley del Rosario, Mimi Tecson, Wesley Valenzuela & Electrolychee.
STRAY
It means to deviate, wander or roam from the direct course or go beyond the proper limits.
Like a lost dog, we aptly named our entry STRAY, to express our idea for the exhibition and the ideals of our office. All entries must use the original Magis design as the basis of the final customized model. We took it a little further and instead, used the base object’s geometry and dimensions to accomplish our goal.
Being the only architecture studio among other participants composed of painters and graffiti artists, we decided to reinterpret Aarnio’s design through carpentry, an expression more familiar to our discipline. The design is executed by deconstructing the original form into 40 planar pieces and assembling them like a three dimensional puzzle.
Gmelina or White Teak is the wood we selected. In the Philippines, Gmelina is commonly used for furniture, cabinetry, mouldings and wood sculptures, particularly for religious statues because it is fairly easy to carve. Its stable supply and abundance makes this material sustainable and inexpensive to use.
With our technical skills in drawing combined with a little imagination and the use of fine natural material, our studio was able to reinterpret Eero Aarnio’s iconic creation in a manner that compliments our design principles.
