Herman Miller Updates An Eames Classic With Wood - The Eames Molded Wood Chair.

The Eames Molded Wood Chair’s range of finish and base options allows for 21 different combinations of this new seating - giving you the opportunity to mix and match a unique look for almost any environment.

Select from three veneers for the wood shell, including white ash, walnut, and santos palisander. Pair it with a choice of three classic bases: wire (often called the "Eiffel Tower") in chrome or black, 4-leg in chrome or black, or wood dowel in one of three finishes.

Knoll x Colette Kids “Diamond” Chairs

Knoll in collaboration with the famed Parisian retailer colette has released two kiddie versions of Harry Bertoia's iconic Diamond Chair.

The chairs are designed in colette colors, with a chrome finish fully upholstered with a two tone blue cover and a white Rilsan finish with a blue seat.

The chairs are available online for $1,387 USD.

Broom Chair | Philippe Starck x Emeco

Philippe Starck and Emeco have teamed up again to create a new "green" chair - The new Broom Chair, made of 75% Reclaimed Polypropylene, 15% Reclaimed wood fiber and 10% glass fiber.

 Imagine”, says Philippe Starck, “a guy who takes a humble broom and starts to clean the workshop and with this dust he makes new magic”. That’s why we call it Broom chair. 

The chair is made from industrial waste plastic and reclaimed wood from lumber factories that would normally be swept into the trash.

Miniature YODA Easy Chair | Kenneth Cobonpue

1:6 scale of Kenneth Cobonpue's popular YODA Easy Chair 

The full-scale Yoda Chair  is made of natural or stained rattan vines woven on a frame of mild steel in a design that uses natural material tension. the outdoor version is made of polyethylene and steel.

I got this miniature chair during the Manila FAME last March in SMX.

We also had the chance meeting the designer during the exhibition. Nice guy.. he signed the boxes of our miniature YODAs. Thanks man!

IKEA UPPLEVA | Furniture with Built-in Home Entertainment Systems

WOW! Ikea is moving into electronics!

IKEA combines furniture and electronics to get rid of messy wires, cables and eyesores.

As reported by The Verge IKEA will be introducing their first home entertainment system products called UPPLEVA soon.

“The range includes three designs, all of which incorporate an LED TV, 2.1 sound system with wireless subwoofers, Wi-Fi for smart TV features, and DVD / Blu-Ray players. The company is planning to launch in Sweden, France, Italy, Poland, Spain, Denmark, Norway, and Portugal in the fall, with a worldwide rollout in spring 2013. The furniture is intended to hide away cables, and will come in a number of different color options.

A few specs on the system have been announced — the LED panels are full HD (suggesting 1080p) which Ikea says have a 400Hz refresh rate and come in four sizes, with four HDMI inputs, two USB ports, and support for DivX HD files. There’s also extra storage, which means that your Xbox 360 and PS3 won’t need to be left out.

The range, dubbed “Uppleva” (meaning experience) is designed to make your home entertainment simpler to use, with one remote to command the whole system. It’s built by Chinese manufacturer TCL, a company better known in the US under the RCA brand, or as Alcatel in Europe. The base model is set to cost SEK 6,500 (about $995) with a 5-year guarantee, though it’s not clear what’s included at this price point, or how much the full version will cost.”

SKEWED Chair | Arnold Austria x Detalle

The SKEWED Chair is one of the chair designs I did back in 2008.

My friend Mady Beldia of Detalle Furniture, helped construct the first prototype. Although this design exercise is not meant to address any practical or comfort needs, a slight adjustment in its backrest and seat-dimension will allow this piece to be used as a normal chair.

The skewed appearance only becomes obvious at certain angles or if placed side by side with other normal chairs. Taking photographs can also be quite tricky because the angles appear normal and congruent to the perspective angles.

I just wished that they had these when we did our Studio blessing.. Planning an event is very stressful especially when choosing the right elements to bring in to your party, Chairs and tables for rent are the hardest since there are limited choices out there like the outdated Tiffany chairs and the cheap Mono Block types. We ended up with the Mono Block chairs that they dress up with white covering.

Limited Edition Eames Chair | Bally x Herman Miller

As part of their 160th anniversary, luxury brand Bally collaborated with Herman Miller in producing a limited edition Eames chair.

The clean and simple form of the classic chair is accentuated with the twin stripes, the traditional Bally branding and a Bally logo metal plate.

I would love to have one for my office!

 

The chair also reminds me of Herbie the love bug :)

Plopp Stool | HAY

Designed by Oskar Zieta in 2008 for Danish company Hay - The Plopp Stool is made of welded sheets of steel and inflated like a balloon by using high-pressure air. The idea is to make a light construction which is easily mass produced.

Every single piece of The Plopp Stool is a one of a kind sculpture.
